and the Tiber Island
! We will be a small group

In an atmosphere evocative and stimulating made of vivid stories, discover all those little unknown wonders of the Eternal City that are hidden in the shadow of Rome's most famous monuments. We will live the authentic face of Rome: not the postcard kind, but the plebeian routes of Rome!
We will visit the typical and colorful Trastevere
quarter, the Tiber Island
and the historic Jewish Ghetto
We depart from Tiberina
, the little island surrounded by the current of the river Tiber, dedicated to the care of the sick: from when the Romans erected a temple of the god of medicine Aesculapius, to the hospital Fatebenefratelli and the medieval Basilica of St. Bartholomew. Inside the basilica we find remains from every era, such as the cannon ball crashed in a wall in memory of the Roman Republic of 1848.
Passing Fabricio bridge we reach the former Jewish ghetto
of Rome, one of the most typical places of the city, home of events in our history that are not always positive. The ghetto was active for over three centuries from 1555, the year of its birth by Pope Paul IV, until 1883 when it was finally abolished and the area redeveloped. The historic homes, that were crowded with thousands of Jewish citizens, are now disappeared, instead we'll visit the Synagogue built in 1904 (from the outside), the remains of the Theatre of Marcellus and the ancient portico of Octavia market, and Piazza Mattei with the precious turtles fountain of Bernini
, then, we'll stop at the Church of St. Benedict
, with the lowest bell tower in Rome, where Benedict of Norcia lived in the sixth century. Inside, the church maintains a simple medieval charm emanated from the wall curtain kept in view, from the fragments of painted plaster and from a very picturesque setting, the room where St. Benedict would retire in prayer and where he had the inspiration for writing the rule.
From there we walk among the alleys of the neighborhood to the Basilica of Saint Cecilia
, special place that combines the wonders of the works of art with the mystical charm of the body of the saint exhumed in 1599 and kept amazingly intact, in the same location where it happened the martyrdom in III sec. An exceptional work that brings great emotion like few other sculptures.
But the surprises do not end here; with a visit to the basement of the Basilica we will admire the remains of a rich Roman house including a spa facility, where according to tradition was killed Cecilia, and a crypt with the remains of the saint and some of his family members.
